Each year the festival is host to a visual artist. In 2009 we presented an exhibition of paintings and acrylics by Anthony Hopkins entitled Masques. Past artists have included Sibylle Szaggars, Sandro Chia, Ana Corbero and J Henry Fair.
Art workshops covering the art of fresco making, decorative painting and mosaic making are provided by decorative artist Julia Perry and her art and craft workshops.
Sant Agostino Art Room
During a three hour interactive and hands-on workshop setting – Julia Perry will teach and demonstrate the techniques of making a fresco. Fresco making is a fascinating Italian painting technique widely used in the renaissance. In this workshop each student will make a small fresco painting that can be taken home. It will be a decorative piece based on an Italian motif. All materials will be provided and the pieces will fit in a suit case for those travelling – a day’s drying is required! The workshop is for beginners and all those who are curious.
Faux Finish is a form of decorative painting that imitates the look of a natural material. It was widely used in the 1700's to decorate furniture and walls in villas of the wealthy. Over a three hour interactive class, Julia Perry will demonstrate techniques such as colour washing, sponging, ragging and others to create interesting, textured surfaces. Using brushwork, transparency and colour you will learn to create painted marble surfaces, wood-grain effect and integrate depth perception using decorative techniques. The class is for beginners and all people who enjoy working with paint.
Dates, prices and additional classes to be announced.
